KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has unveiled plans to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the city, marking a major step toward promoting eco-friendly mobility and reducing carbon emissions in Pakistan’s largest metropolis.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting at the KMC Head Office, chaired by Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who directed concerned departments to immediately initiate groundwork for the project.

In the first phase, KMC will install EV charging stations along Shahrah-e-Faisal, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, and Stadium Road — key traffic corridors in Karachi.

Mayor Wahab said the initiative represents Karachi’s commitment to a cleaner and smarter urban future, emphasizing that the project aims to “empower citizens to transition from fuel-based vehicles to sustainable electric mobility.” He added that KMC will allocate land and fund the project using its own resources to ensure timely execution.

The initiative aligns with the city’s broader vision for sustainable transportation and environmentally responsible infrastructure development.

The meeting was attended by Financial Advisor Gulzar Abro, Director Media Daniyal Alishan, Deputy Director Planning Musheer Mahar, and other senior KMC officials.
